Playgrounds being built in 160 schools in Tangail
Playgrounds are being constructed in 160 school premises across 12 upazilas of the district to ensure education for children from marginalized communities and to prevent school dropouts.
These playgrounds are being set up to ensure that children from underprivileged backgrounds can learn with joy and recreation for reducing dropout rates.
Under the initiative of the district administration, 160 playgrounds are being built in designated schools through Upazila Nirbahi Officers (UNOs) of the 12 upazilas. This initiative is expected to play a unique role in helping children become confident, learn teamwork, develop problem-solving and creative thinking skills, and build resilience through sports and games.
According to district administration sources, every child is precious and full of potential. In many cases, children from marginalized communities have very limited opportunities for recreation. If these children are given opportunities to grow with care and joy, they will become skilled and capable citizens who can contribute to their own development and that of the nation.
Tangail Deputy Commissioner (DC) Sharifa Haque has launched an initiative with the theme “Let’s grow with joy to change the world” to prevent dropouts and ensure joyful learning for primary school children from marginalized communities.
In Tangail Sadar upazila alone, 15 educational institutions have already been selected for playground construction.
These schools include: Kartia Khagjana Government Primary School, Poila Government Primary School, Kodalia Government Primary School, Hugra Government Primary School, Bagbari Chaubaria Government Primary School, Bahuli Makorkol Government Primary School, Subarnatali Government Primary School, Chakta Government Primary School, Baghil Government Primary School, Khidir Government Primary School, Alishakanda Government Primary School, Deldha Government Primary School, Agbikramhati Government Primary School, Boro Belta Government Primary School, and Khorddjoygini Government Primary School. Mini-parks are being established there.
Tangail Sadar Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) Shahin Mia said that these 15 schools have been selected for establishing playground.
To ensure joyful learning for children from marginalized groups and prevent school dropouts, each playground will include swings, slides, and a map, he said.
Gradually, more primary schools and madrasas from remote areas of the upazila will be included in this programme, he added.
Deputy Commissioner Sharifa Haque told BSS that if children are given opportunities to grow joyfully, they can develop into skilled and capable citizens who can advance both themselves and the country.
She added that sports help children become confident, creative, improve teamwork and problem-solving skills, and build strong mental resilience.
She also mentioned that murals featuring the map of Bangladesh are being built in each school to inspire patriotism among students. “We are committed to giving the next generation a joyful childhood,” she said.
She further noted that various programs are regularly undertaken to nurture moral values and ensure the fullest development of the talents of children from marginalized communities.
Notably, in a recent initiative to promote environmental awareness among students, the Deputy Commissioner launched a programme titled “Let every child and every dream bloom like a flower for the next generation.”
Under this initiative, a total of 4,069 beautiful trees (Krishnachura, Jarul, and Sonalu) have been planted — three in each of the district’s 1,623 government primary schools — a move that has already earned wide applause.
