Ctg mayor stresses urgency of formulating breast cancer screening policy

Mayor of Chattogram City Corporation, Dr. Shahadat Hossain, today emphasized the importance of raising awareness about breast cancer and highlighted the urgent need for a national policy on breast cancer screening.

“According to a World Health Organization study, around 650,000 people die from breast cancer each year. Raising awareness about this disease is crucial. Early detection and timely treatment can significantly reduce the death toll,” he said.

He underlined the importance of promoting health awareness to build a healthy and informed community. “Prevention is better than cure, and this principle should be part of our daily lives,” he added.

Dr. Shahadat Hossain made the remarks as the chief guest at the “Breast Cancer Awareness Seminar” held at the Chattogram International Medical College Auditorium in Chandgaon Shamsher Para.

The mayor also noted that October is being observed as global Breast Cancer Awareness Month, and the Medical Zone in Chattogram City has been decorated as a 'Pink Zone' to promote women’s health awareness. He highlighted the modernization of citizen services and announced that the 'Amader Chattogram' app will be launched on October 21 at the International Convention Center.

The event was chaired by Professor Dr. Tipu Sultan, Principal of Chattogram International Medical College. 

Special guests included Dr. AKM Fazlul Haque, Chairman of the EC Committee of Chattogram Development for Education Society and Health; Dr. ATM Rezaul Karim, Chairman of the Governing Body of Chattogram International Dental College; EC Secretary and Head of the Children’s Department, Professor Dr. Md. Muslim Uddin Sabuj; Principal of Chattogram International Dental College; and Dr. Md. Akram Parvez Chowdhury, among others.
