Burimari land port halts import-export for three days during Kali Puja

Trade activities at Lalmonirhat’s Burimari land port with India’s Changrabandha port have been suspended for three days from Monday to Wednesday (Oct 20-22) on the occasion of the Hindu festival Kali Puja (Diwali).

Burimari C&F Agents Association General Secretary Niyaz Nahid said, “The suspension covers import-export operations only, while Customs House and other internal port activities will continue as normal.”

Assistant Director Mahmudul Hasan informed that the Indian business community requested the halt due to the public holiday in India during Diwali.

He added that normal trade will resume after the festival.

Assistant Commissioner of Customs Delwar Hossain confirmed the suspension, emphasizing that internal port operations remain unaffected.

Ashraful Islam, Officer-in-Charge of Burimari Checkpost Immigration Police, said that despite the halt in trade, passport-holding passengers can move freely across the border as usual.
