Fakhrul urges for poll as soon as possible
BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir today put emphasize on holding election as soon as possible for betterment of the country.
“The country will plunge into more crisis as long as the interim government will remain in power as it has no people’s mandate,” he said while addressing a discussion marking the 48th death anniversary of Maulana Abdul Hamid Khan Bhasani at Jatiya Press Club here.
BNP’s National committee for observing 48th death anniversary of the Maulana Bhasani organized the discussion with BNP vice chairman Shamsuzzaman Dudu in the chair.
BNP central leaders Nitai Roy Chowdhury, Khairul Kabir Khokan, Abdus Salam Azad, Helen Jerin Khan, Asadul Karim and Nazmul Haque, among others, took part in the discussion.
Mirza Fakhrul said, the interim government is not an elected government. They should think to hold an election as soon as possible after completion of necessary reforms, he said.
He said, “We obviously want reform. But it should not take so long time which might create wrong perception among people.
About the BNP’s proposal for reforming the governance system Fakhrul Islam said, the parliament should be bicameral and a person should not be in the position of prime minister for more than two times.
He urged the interim government to break the market syndicate to reduce the price of essentials.
Paying glowing tribute to Maulana Bhasani, the BNP secretary general said he was an exceptional leader. Bhasani, who came from a very ordinary family, became a political legend through his sacrifice and devotion.
