Airport fire may be part of plot to thwart polls: UTAB


University Teachers’ Association of Bangladesh (UTAB) has expressed deep concern over the devastating fire that broke out at the cargo village of Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport (HSIA) in Dhaka.
The association’s leaders have demanded a proper investigation into the incident and exemplary punishment for those responsible.
In a statement issued today, UTAB President Professor Dr. A.B.M. Obaidul Islam and General Secretary Professor Dr. Morshed Hasan Khan conveyed this information.
The organization suspected that the incident might be part of a conspiracy to thwart the upcoming national elections.
In the statement, the UTAB leaders said the association is deeply concerned and strongly condemned the terrible fire that occurred at such a vital and sensitive location at cargo village of HSIA.
Such incident pose a grave threat to the nation’s image, security, and international trade; they said adding that the fire, which caused extensive damage to imported goods and temporarily disrupted air operations, has delivered a major blow to the national economy.
