Bangladesh seeks Saudi support for green initiatives, rainwater harvesting: Rizwana

Adviser to the Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change Syeda Rizwana Hasan today sought Saudi cooperation for green initiatives and ensuring safe drinking water through rainwater harvesting projects.

“Bangladesh is among the most climate-vulnerable countries in the world, and international cooperation is crucial to effectively address this challenge,” she said.

The adviser made the remarks when Saudi Ambassador to Bangladesh Dr Abdullah Zafer H. bin Abiyah paid a courtesy call on her at her office in the Secretariat here.

The envoy, during the meeting, invited the adviser to attend the upcoming 5th session of the Islamic Conference and expressed optimism about further strengthening bilateral cooperation in environmental conservation and climate resilience.

Ambassador Abiyah also discussed the potential for joint initiatives between Bangladesh and Saudi Arabia in areas such as green technology, renewable energy, and water resource management.

Later, the adviser chaired a review meeting on the development and overall activities of the Bangladesh Rubber Board at the ministry conference room.

She emphasized the need for adopting environment-friendly methods for the sustainable development of the rubber industry and provided guidelines to enhance research, expand export opportunities, and ensure policy support.

Secretary of the Environment, Forest and Climate Change Ministry Dr Farhina Ahmed, Additional Secretary Md Khayrul Hasan, Joint Secretary Shahanara Yasmin Lili, and senior officials were present at the meeting.
