Autorickshaw driver beaten to death in Chandpur

A CNG auto-rickshaw driver was beaten to death in the Bagadi union intersection area of Chandpur Sadar Upazila over an unpaid rent dispute on Sunday.

The deceased, Sharif Talukder 19, is the son of Mofiz Talukdar of Bramman Sakhura union of the upazila.

Chandpur Sadar Model Police Station Inspector (Investigation), Rajib Chakraborty said that the incident occurred on Saturday night around 9 pm.

After receiving the news, Sub-Inspector (SI) Md Shahjahan and the accompanying police recovered the body from the spot and brought it to the police station.

Md Jasim Uddin, the victim’s uncle, filed a written complaint at the police station. In his statement, he claimed that Rasel Gazi brought Talukder to the shop, beat him severely and then hanged him after realising he had died.

According to the complaint, the accused are- Md Rasel Gazi, 28, an auto-rickshaw parts shopkeeper, mechanic Suman Patwari, 35 and several unidentified persons.

Sharif owed Tk 11,000 in rent to Rasel Gazi and the money is supposed to be paid on December 12, said Jasim.

Inspector Rajib Chakraborty said that the victim was found hanging from the spot and brought to the police station and body would be handed over to family after the post-mortem.

“The family has filed a complaint. We are investigating and further action will be taken,” he said.
