Bangladesh is getting the scent of a big win on the fourth day of the Sylhet Test. In response to Ireland's 286 runs in the first innings, Mahmudul Hasan Joy (171) and Nazmul Hossain Shantor (100) scored impeccable centuries to post 587 runs for 8 wickets and declare the innings.

Trailing by 301 runs, the Irish were in danger when they went to bat in the second innings on Thursday afternoon. After losing five wickets below 100, the Test newcomers are now on the verge of an innings defeat. They will have to score another 215 runs for the remaining five wickets.

At the end of the third day's play, Ireland's total was 86 for 5. Andy McBurne and Matthew Humphreys were unbeaten on four and zero respectively. Opener Paul Stirling was run out for 43. Harry Tector also returned for 18.

Among the Tiger bowlers, debutant Hasan Murad took 2 wickets in just one over, while Taijul Islam and Nahid Islam took 1 wicket each.

Earlier, Bangladesh batted brilliantly in the first innings in response to Ireland's 286. Opener Mahmudul Hasan Joy scored the highest 171 runs in 286 balls from the crease in 344 minutes with the help of 14 fours and 4 sixes.

And captain Nazmul Hossain Shanto returned to the wicket in 197 minutes with the help of 14 boundaries and 100 runs in 114 balls.

In addition, Sadman Islam Anik scored 80 runs in 104 balls with the help of 9 fours and a six. And Mominul Haque Sourav scored 82 runs off 132 balls with the help of 5 fours and 2 sixes. Liton Kumar Das scored 66 runs off 66 balls with the help of 8 fours and a six.

Among the Irish bowlers, young spinner Humphries took five wickets alone, giving away 170 runs. Among the rest, pacer Barry McCarthy took 2 wickets and Andy McBrien took 1 wicket.
