CA orders arrest of Hadi’s killers, maintain law and order before polls
Chief Adviser Professor Muhammad Yunus has directed law enforcement agencies to swiftly arrest those involved in the killing of Osman Hadi and others engaged in illegal activities and keep the law and order situation normal at any costs before the national elections.
“Ahead of the upcoming national election, the law and order situation must be kept normal at any cost,” he said.
The Chief Adviser made the instructions while addressing a meeting to review the country’s overall law and order situation at the State Guest House Jamuna here on Sunday, said Chief Adviser’s Press Wing this morning.
Home Affairs Adviser Lieutenant General (Retd) Md Jahangir Alam Chowdhury, National Security Adviser Dr Khalilur Rahman and senior officials of different security and law enforcement agencies were present at the meeting.
During the meeting, detailed discussions were held on several key issues, including security measures centering the return of BNP Acting Chairman Tarique Rahman to the country, preparations for the upcoming Christmas and English New Year celebrations, and related security arrangements.
The meeting reviewed the progress of investigations and arrests in connection with the killing of Inqilab Mancha spokesperson and July fighter Shaheed Sharif Osman Hadi.
Police officials informed the Chief Adviser that, by reviewing video footage, 31 individuals have already been identified as suspects in recent attacks on the offices of two national daily newspapers and two cultural organizations.
According to law enforcement agencies, as of this (Monday) morning, at least nine people have been arrested in raids conducted in the city and other parts of the country in connection with attacks on the offices of two national daily newspapers and two cultural organizations.
Among the arrestees, identities of seven people have been confirmed immediately. They are Md Kashem Faruqi, Md Saidur Rahman, Rakib Hossain, Md Naim, Faisal Ahmed Pranta, Md Sohel Rana, and Md Shafikul Islam. Operations are ongoing to arrest the remaining identified suspects.
Identities of two people arrested by the police's Counter Terrorism Unit and the Intelligence Police are being verified.
Besides, three individuals involved in attempts to create disorder near the residence of the Indian Assistant High Commissioner in Chattogram have been identified by analyzing video footage.
