268 officers promoted to deputy secretary

A total of 268 officers have been promoted from senior assistant secretary to deputy secretary in the administration - the Ministry of Public Administration confirmed on Thursday.
The promotion notification also includes six officers serving at foreign embassies and missions.
All promoted officers have been made special officers (OSD) at the Ministry of Public Administration, but their posting orders have not yet been issued.
Among the promoted officials, 192 are from the administration cadre and 76 from other cadres and most promotions were based on the 30th batch of BCS, though officers from earlier batches who were previously skipped are also included.
Currently, there are more officers at the deputy secretary level than regular posts, so many will continue working in their previous positions.
After this promotion, the total number of deputy secretaries in the administration is 1,669.
According to the “Government Deputy Secretary, Joint Secretary, Additional Secretary and Secretary Promotion Rules, 2002,” 75% of promotions are for administration cadre officers and 25% for officers from other cadres.
Officers must have at least 10 years of service in their cadre and five years as senior assistant secretary, along with a benchmark score of 83 or above.
Promoted officers must submit their joining letters to the senior secretary of the Ministry of Public Administration either directly or online (email: sal@mopa.gov.bd).
Officers posted abroad will receive the promoted pay scale after formal orders from their respective administrative ministries, while foreign allowances will follow the embassy or mission rules.
