Law Ministry blamed for law and order situation just because of its name: Asif Nazrul

Law Adviser Asif Nazrul has said his ministry is being unfairly held responsible for the country's law and order issues simply because it includes the word "law" in its name.
Speaking at a press conference on legal reforms at the Secretariat on Thursday, he clarified that the ministry has no role in maintaining law and order, which falls under the purview of other ministries.
“With all humility, I ask—why should my ministry be criticised for the actions or shortcomings of others? We are working diligently, yet being held accountable for issues beyond our mandate,” he said.
“The Law Ministry deals with lower courts and sub-registrar offices. We have no involvement in law enforcement or matters concerning the High Court.”
The law adviser expressed concern over the misconception that his ministry is responsible for public safety failures, while receiving no credit for successes elsewhere. “If another adviser, such as our brother Muhammad Fawzul Kabir Khan, is doing exceptional work across three ministries, should I or my ministry be credited for his achievements? Then why blame us for deficiencies in areas we don’t oversee?”
He stressed the need for fair and accurate assessments of ministerial performance, acknowledging that every ministry faces its own set of challenges. “If we make mistakes, hold us accountable—but do not burden us with others’ failures.”
Regarding judicial reform, he mentioned the government’s ongoing plan to establish a separate judicial secretariat.
“As part of this process, the chief justice will create posts for judicial officers, with clear rules for their appointment. It is being done step by step—it cannot happen overnight. InshaAllah, it will be completed during our tenure,” he added.
