Film Director Chaynika Chowdhury gets bail in cheque dishonor case

A court here today granted bail to film and drama director Chaynika Chowdhury in connection with a cheque dishonor case.

 The eminent film and drama director today surrendered to the court of Seventh Joint Metropolitan Sessions Judge Md Bulbul Islam and sought bail. The court after hearing on the petition granted her bail.

Earlier on May 6, the court issued an arrest warrant against her as she did not appear before the court on the scheduled date.

Court sources said film producer Rashedul Islam Reaz on May 14 in 2013 filed a case against Chaynika Chowdhury and she obtained bail from the court on June 2 in 2014. The case was transferred to Dhaka Metropolitan Sessions Judge Court on August 7 of that year for trial and the 7th Joint Metropolitan Sessions Judge Court framed charges against her on February 10 in 2015.

According to the case, producer Reaz gave Taka 230,000 to Chayniak Chowdhury for a drama ‘Jibon Sundor Hok’ but Chaynika did not make the drama as per agreement. She also refused to make the drama when Reaz repeatedly pressed her.

Later, Chayniak handed over a cheque of Taka 2,30,000 to Reaz on October 30 in 2012. In several occasions, Reaz requested Chaynika to arrange the money for the encashment of the cheque but she failed. As a result, Reaz served a legal notice to Chaynika and finally lodged a case against her.
