Abrar Fahad, a second-year student of the Electrical and Electronics Engineering (EEE) department of Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology, was beaten to death by a group of activists of recently banned Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL), at the Sher-e-Bangla Hall of the university on October 6 in 2019, over a Facebook post regarding water-sharing issues between Bangladesh and India. His body was later found on the stairs of the hall.
On the following day, the victim's father filed a murder case against 19 Chhatra League activists with city's Chawkbazar police station when a massive outrage sparked across the country centering the issue.
