ICT orders to produce 4 on April 9 over killing of Abu Sayed

The International Crimes Tribunal (ICT) today ordered for producing four people, including two former policemen, before it on April 9 in a crimes against humanity case lodged over the killing of Abu Sayed in Rangpur during the July-August mass uprising.

The three-member tribunal led by Justice Md Golam Mortuza Mozumder passed the order, allowing a plea of the prosecution, ICT Chief Prosecutor Muhammad Tajul Islam said at a press briefing after the hearing.

The four accused are former sub-inspector Amir Hossain, former constable Sujan Chandra Roy, former proctor of Begum Rokeya University Shariful Islam and general secretary of banned Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL) varsity wing Imran Chowdhury Akash.

"Before the killing of Abu Sayed, then proctor Shariful and leaders and activists of BCL attacked the varsity students and flashed them out of their campus. At one point, two policemen shot and killed Abu Sayed from very close range. We have found evidences, indicating Shariful's direct involvement in the killing. All these four have already been arrested and are now behind bars. The tribunal today ordered to produce them on April 9," Muhammad Tajul Islam added.

The ICT chief prosecutor said the investigation agency of the tribunal is likely to file its probe report in the crimes against humanity case against ousted prime minister Sheikh Hasina within this month.

The family members of martyr Abu Sayed on January 13 filed a complaint against 25 over his killing.
