Best Bollywood Movies Releasing in September 2025: Theatrical and OTT Releases

As the monsoon rains subside and the festive season begins to stir, Bollywood gears up to deliver a dynamic cinematic buffet in September 2025, blending pulse-pounding action, courtroom hilarity, historical exploration, rural drama, supernatural chillers, indie storytelling, and even a cross-industry gangster thriller. Here’s a closer look at the most hyped Bollywood movies coming this September that are set to light up theatres, OTT platforms and capture audiences’ imaginations.

Top Bollywood movies scheduled to release in September 2025

Baaghi 4

Leading the charge is Baaghi 4, the fourth instalment in the action franchise. This film promises jaw-dropping stunts, emotional stakes of loyalty and vengeance, and intense global espionage as Ronnie takes on a cyber-terrorist antagonist. It’s slated to hit theatres on September 5, 2025.

Directed by A. Harsha, marking his Bollywood directorial debut, the film brings a fresh perspective to the action genre while retaining mass appeal. Produced by Nadiadwala Grandson Entertainment under Sajid Nadiadwala’s banner, the film stars Tiger Shroff (reprising his role as Ronnie), joined by Sanjay Dutt as the menacing antagonist and Sonam Bajwa and Harnaaz Sandhu, both in leading roles—Harnaaz making her Bollywood debut.

While detailed plot elements remain under wraps, it's understood that Ronnie faces heightened challenges—including a deadly adversary embodied by Sanjay Dutt—in this grittier and globally inclined narrative. Rumour has it that Ronnie may be recruited by a covert international agency to combat a global terror threat, putting his strength and resilience to the ultimate test.

Notable contributors include writer duo Tasha Bhambra & Sparsh Khetarpal, with cinematography by Santhana Krishnan Ravichandran and editing by Tammiraju. The musical lineup is expansive: songs composed by artists like Badshah, Tanishk Bagchi, and Payal Dev, among others, while Sanchit and Ankit Balhara handle the background score—replacing Julius Packiam, the composer of prior entries.

The Bengal Files

On the very same date, audiences will also witness the release of The Bengal Files, a bold historical-political drama unearthing the grim realities of events such as the Noakhali genocide and Calcutta’s Direct Action Day.

Directed and written by Vivek Ranjan Agnihotri, The Bengal Files is the third and concluding chapter of his Files Trilogy, following The Tashkent Files (2019) and The Kashmir Files (2022). Initially titled The Delhi Files: The Bengal Chapter, it was renamed The Bengal Files: Right to Life in response to audience input.

Anchored by powerhouse performances from Mithun Chakraborty and Anupam Kher, this film is poised to spark conversation with its unflinching portrayal of a forgotten chapter of history.

The cast also includes Darshan Kumar, Pallavi Joshi, Simrat Kaur, Saswata Chatterjee, Namashi Chakraborty, Rajesh Khera, Puneet Issar, Priyanshu Chatterjee, Dibyendu Bhattacharya, Sourav Das, and Mohan Kapur. Notably, Anupam Kher’s first look as Mahatma Gandhi was unveiled recently—remarkably, without prosthetics—to much acclaim.

Pallavi Joshi takes on the extraordinary challenge of portraying a 100-year-old woman in the film. To achieve this, she halted her skincare routine six months prior and underwent prosthetic makeup, aiming for a look that finds a balance between haunting and tender.

Madharasi

Also arriving on September 5 is Madharasi, a pan-Indian collaboration written and directed by A. R. Murugadoss and produced by N. Srilakshmi Prasad under the Sri Lakshmi Movies banner.

Its ensemble cast features Sivakarthikeyan, Vidyut Jammwal as the antagonist, Rukmini Vasanth (making her Tamil debut), Biju Menon, Vikranth, and Shabeer Kallarakkal. The technical crew includes Sudeep Elamon on cinematography, National Award winner A. Sreekar Prasad as editor, action sequences choreographed by Kevin Kumar, and Anirudh Ravichander scoring the music

Described by Murugadoss as an “action thriller with a love story at its heart”, Madharasi promises a blend of romance and action, drawing comparisons to Ghajini, though with its own narrative twist. The teaser trailer released on Sivakarthikeyan’s 40th birthday features a dramatic sequence with a high-speed car crash and a glimpse of him facing off against armed adversaries, signalling intense visuals and creative storytelling.

Promoted with a grand audio launch in London, this film steps into the spotlight with global aspirations and a mix of anticipation among fans.

Bayaan

In an indie space, the female-led police procedural Bayaan marks its world premiere on September 7 at the 2025 Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF) in the prestigious Discovery section. Written and directed by Bikas Ranjan Mishra, it is the only Indian film featured in that category this year. Though not a theatrical release in India that month, its festival debut makes it a standout September event.

Written and directed by Bikas Ranjan Mishra, Bayaan centres on Roohi Kartar, portrayed by Huma Qureshi, a rookie detective dispatched from Delhi to a remote Rajasthani town. Assigned her first case, she must investigate allegations against a revered cult leader accused via an anonymous letter of sexual misconduct. As she digs deeper, she grapples with entrenched power structures, institutional complicity, and cultural resistance.

The film is produced by Platoon One Films led by Shiladitya Bora, along with Summit Studios (Madhu Sharma), Kunal Kumar, Anuj Gupta, and Switzerland-based Guidant Films (Sadik Keshwani). It has also received support from the Hubert Bals Fund of the International Film Festival Rotterdam and was developed through Film Independent’s Global Media Makers LA Residency, where Mishra was mentored by Chernobyl creator Craig Mazin and advised by writers such as Jeff Stockwell and story editor Ruth Atkinson.

Jolly LLB 3

The mid-month brings Bollywood's highly anticipated courtroom comedy Jolly LLB 3. Set to be released on September 19, this franchise entry is expected to serve sharp wit, refreshing banter, and the trademark pratfalls of a legal comedy. However, there’s active discussion about a possible shift to 2 October 2025 (Gandhi Jayanti), though official confirmation is still pending.

Directed and written by Subhash Kapoor, Jolly LLB 3 revisits the beloved satirical legal universe of the previous films. This instalment stars both of the franchise's titular “Jollys”, with Akshay Kumar reprising his role as Advocate Jagdishwar “Jolly” Mishra and Arshad Warsi returning as Advocate Jagdish “Jolly” Tyagi. Saurabh Shukla also returns as the exasperated Judge Sunder Lal Tripathi.

The other cast members include Huma Qureshi, Amrita Rao, Annu Kapoor, Boman Irani, Seema Biswas, and Sanjay Mishra.

The film’s soundtrack includes contributions from Aman Pant, Anurag Saikia, and Vikram Montrose, with the background score by Mangesh Dhakde.

Nishaanchi

Hitting theatres on September 19, Nishaanchi is described as a rustic drama. It follows the divergent life paths of two brothers, unfolds a gritty, raw brothers tale of crime, conscience, betrayal, and redemption, explores emotional turmoil, and weaves in dynamic characters.

Directed by Anurag Kashyap and scripted by Kashyap himself alongside Ranjan Chandel and Prasoon Mishra, Nishaanchi marks the acting debut of Aaishvary Thackeray, grandson of Shiv Sena founder Bal Thackeray, a transition that has drawn considerable media attention.

Aaishvary takes on a dual role as twin brothers, one a street-smart local hero (“Babloo”), the other a dutiful, morally grounded sibling (“Dabloo”). The story promises to delve into how their divergent life paths and choices dramatically shape their destinies.

The other roles will be played by Vedika Pinto, Monika Panwar, Mohammed Zeeshan Ayyub, Kumud Mishra, and Vineet Kumar Singh, adding depth and texture to the film’s turbulent world.

On the technical front, Nishaanchi is produced by Ajay Rai and Ranjan Singh under the Jar Pictures banner, in collaboration with Flip Films and distributed by Amazon MGM Studios. The film’s cinematography is handled by Sylvester Fonseca, with Aarti Bajaj in charge of editing. The music ensemble includes Anurag Saikia, Manan Bhardwaj, Nishikar Chhibber, Dhruv Ghanekar, and even Aaishvary Thackeray himself contributing.

Haunted 3D – Ghosts of the Past

As the month draws to a close, Haunted 3D – Ghosts of the Past arrives on September 26, offering audiences a chilling 3D horror experience. With Mahaakshay Chakraborty in the lead, this supernatural thriller seeks to carve its niche among horror buffs.

The film serves as a spiritual successor to Vikram Bhatt’s 2011 breakthrough Haunted – 3D—India’s first stereoscopic horror film. With Mimoh (Mahaakshay) Chakraborty reprising his connection to the haunted narrative, this sequel promises to amplify both the dread and artistry of its predecessor.

Directed by Vikram Bhatt and presented by stalwarts Mahesh Bhatt and Anand Pandit, the film carries the creative weight of their reputed horror legacy. The production is led by Anand Pandit alongside Rakesh Juneja and Shwetambari Bhatt, marking a reunion of filmmakers known for pushing the boundaries of atmospheric storytelling.

Technically, the film commits to offering a fully immersive 3D horror experience, built with cutting-edge VFX and sound design that are central to its storytelling. As producer Anand Pandit shared, this isn’t just another ghost story—it’s a psychological journey through fear and memory.

They Call Him OG

Finally, while not strictly Bollywood, the Telugu-made gangster thriller They Call Him OG rolls into theatres on September 25. The film explores the underworld’s shifting power dynamics, identity, loyalty, and revenge, and after its theatrical run, it will stream on Netflix.

Directed and written by Sujeeth, the film is produced by D. V. V. Danayya under the DVV Entertainment banner.

The film is anchored by Pawan Kalyan in the titular role of Ojas Gambheera, popularly known as "OG", who returns to the underworld after a decade-long disappearance. His antagonist is Emraan Hashmi, making his Telugu cinema debut, as ruthless crime lord Omi Bhau. Priyanka Mohan plays the female lead, with an ensemble supporting cast that includes Arjun Das, Prakash Raj, Sriya Reddy, Subhalekha Sudhakar, Harish Uthaman, Abhimanyu Singh, Ajay Ghosh, and Saurav Lokesh.

They Call Him OG follows the dramatic return of Ojas Gambheera, who resurfaces after a decade to reclaim his empire and confront the brutal new power, Omi Bhau. His comeback triggers a violent and emotionally charged power struggle, steeped in themes of revenge, loyalty, identity, and redemption.

The soundtrack and score are composed by Thaman S, marking his fourth collaboration with Pawan Kalyan. Cinematography is helmed by Ravi K. Chandran and Manoj Paramahamsa, while Naveen Nooli handles editing.
