35,000 Rajshahi people to go Dhaka to witness of Tarique Rahman return

Sharif Osman Hadi, an independent parliamentary candidate for Dhaka-8 and spokesperson of Inqilab Moncho, was shot on December 12 in the capital's Bijoynagar Box Culvert area.

According to the case statement, two assailants riChief Adviser Professor Muhammad Yunus today reiterated his commitment to holding general elections on February 12, 2026. 

"The nation is eagerly waiting to exercise their voting rights which were stolen by the autocratic regime," he said 

Professor Yunus made the remarks during a telephone conversation with Sergio Gor, the US Special Envoy for South and Central Asia, at around 7:30 pm (Dhaka time), said Chief Adviser's Press Wing. 

The discussion, which lasted about half an hour, focused on trade and tariff negotiations between Bangladesh and the United States, the upcoming general election, the country's democratic transition, and the murder of young Bangladeshi political activist Sharif Osman Hadi.

Sergio Gor, who also serves as the US Ambassador to India, congratulated Professor Yunus for his leadership during recent tariff negotiations. 

Bangladesh succeeded in reducing US reciprocal tariffs on Bangladeshi goods to 20 percent.

The US Special Envoy also discussed the massive funeral of Shaheed Osman Hadi.

Chief Adviser noted that supporters of the ousted autocratic regime were allegedly spending millions of dollars to disrupt the electoral process and that their fugitive leader was inciting violence.

However, he said, the interim government was "fully prepared" to deal with any challenges.

"We have roughly 50 days to go before the election. We want to hold a free, fair and peaceful election. We want to make it remarkable," Professor Yunus said.

Inqilab Moncho member secretary Abdullah Al Zaber filed the case with Paltan Model Police Station on December 14.Around 35,000 BNP leaders and workers are likely to go to Dhaka from Rajshahi to witness the return of BNP acting Chairman Tarique Rahman.

They are setting out to go to Dhaka by train, bus, microbus and car on the occasion. 

Railway office sources said four special trains with carrying capacity of around 3,000 passengers will run on behalf of the west zone railway from December 25. These are: Panchagarh-Dhaka, Chatmohar-Dhaka, Jessore-Dhaka and Khulna-Dhaka.

Simultaneously, extra bogies will be added to different trains running on the routes. 

Rajshahi city president of BNP Mamunur Rashid told BSS that around 35,000 to 37,000 leaders and workers will go to Dhaka from Rajshahi. They have busarrangements on the party basis.

District BNP Convener Abu Sayeed Chand told BSS that around 4,000 to 5,000 leaders and workers will go to Dhaka from his Rajshahi-6 (Charghat-Bagha) constituency.
