Home Adviser Lieutenant General (Retd) Md. Jahangir Alam Chowdhury has said that instructions have been given to arrest the killers of a freedom fighter and his wife in Rangpur soon.

“The concerned authorities have been instructed to arrest the killers quickly and bring them to justice,” he added.

The adviser said this while responding to media queries after coming out from the 17th meeting of the Advisory Council Committee on Law and Order, held in the conference room of the Home Ministry at Bangladesh Secretariat here.

“The murdered couple is the parents of our two colleagues ---one in police and another in a RAB---so we have ordered quick arrest of the perpetrators,’ he said.
Jahangir noted that serious discussions were held regarding security issues at the July Museum to be opened at Sher-e-Banglanagar soon, to ensure safe movement for visitors.

Asked about the recovery of looted weapons, the adviser said “the process is ongoing”.

In response to questions on election preparedness and the creation of a level playing field, he said, “We want to hold a free and fair election.”

Lieutenant General Chowdhury emphasized that all preparations for the upcoming parliamentary elections are in place, including comprehensive training for law enforcement agencies, procurement of body-worn cameras, and ensuring uninterrupted electricity supply at every polling station.

“Training is essential for smooth implementation of any preparation. There is no alternative to training,” he said.

In this connection, he said the training programs for law enforcement officers will be completed by next January.

The adviser also said the Election Commission has announced changes to voting hours for the upcoming election.

“Polling will now run from 7:30 am to 4:30 pm—an extension of one hour. Due to the extended time, vote counting may continue after sunset, so alternative management of the electricity is crucial at every polling center centres so that voting does not hamper due to power outage,” he said.

Special Assistant to the Principal Adviser on Home Affairs Md Md. Khuda Baksh Chowdhury, Senior Secretary of the Home Ministry Nasimul Ghani, IGP Baharul Alam, and Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) Director General Major General Mohammad Ashrafuzzaman Siddiqui, among others, were present at the briefing.
