Specialist physician Dr. Richard Beale from the United Kingdom has arrived in Dhaka to provide medical assistance to BNP Chairperson and former Prime Minister Begum Khaleda Zia.

He arrived at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport today at 10:20 am, according to BNP media cell member Shayrul Kabir Khan.

Upon arriving in Dhaka, Dr. Richard Beale proceeded to Evercare Hospital in the capital where Khaleda Zia is currently undergoing treatment in the Coronary Care Unit (CCU).

Shayrul Kabir mentioned that it is expected that new directions will be found for Begum Khaleda Zia's treatment with the participation of the foreign specialist medical team. The medical board at Evercare Hospital is now discussing and reviewing the necessary medical reports and recent test results with the foreign doctors.

On Tuesday, Khaleda Zia's personal physician and BNP Standing Committee Member Dr. A Z M Zahid Hossain said that the BNP has all preparations to take Khaleda Zia abroad. However, he noted that there is no scope to do anything beyond her current condition and the medical board's decision. He had said that a specialist physician from the UK would be arriving to see her.

Dr. Zahid Hossain also informed that if the medical board deems it necessary after the UK physician's examination, Khaleda Zia will be appropriately taken abroad for treatment.

Khaleda Zia was taken to Evercare Hospital on the night of November 23 after developing respiratory distress. She was admitted after tests revealed a lung infection. Her physical condition deteriorated in the early hours of Sunday morning, leading to her transfer from the SDU (Step Down Unit) to the CCU.

Although Begum Khaleda Zia's physical condition is currently stable, the hospital's medical board felt the need for additional specialist opinion to ensure her improved and comprehensive treatment and to conduct a deeper evaluation of the ongoing medical management. Consequently, two specialist medical teams from the United Kingdom and China were invited.
