Pedestrian killed as DSCC garbage truck hits him in Jatrabari

A 35-year-old man was killed after being hit by a Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC) garbage truck while crossing the road in the capital’s Jatrabari area on Thursday night.

The deceased was identified as Mohammad Iqbal Hossain, son of Abul Hossain from Paschim Chokra village in Banaripara Upazila of Barishal.

Iqbal Hossain, a father of one, worked at a local laundry shop and lived with his family in a rented house in Jatrabari.

Mohammad Mizanur Rahman, sub-inspector (SI) of Jatrabari Police Station, said the accident occurred around 10 pm near the Kolapotti area.

Quoting Iqbal’s elder brother Tarikul Islam Faruk, he said Iqbal was returning home after finishing work when the speeding truck hit him, killing him on the spot.

Later, police recovered the body and sent it to Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH) morgue for an autopsy early Friday, he added.

SI Mizanur said police have seized the truck and that legal proceedings are underway.
