DUCSU election can be a model for national election: Home Adviser


Home Adviser Lieutenant General (Retd.) Md Jahangir Alam Chowdhury today described the DUCSU election as a model for the national election, reiterating that they are committed to give the nation a peaceful and festive election.
"The voters are exercising their votes in DUCSU election spontaneously. It is not exactly the same as the national elections, but it is a model. The DUCSU election can be a model for the national election," he said.
The Home Adviser made the remarks after a meeting of the Advisory Council on Law and Order at the Secretariat here.
He also said, "We want to give the gift of a peaceful and festive national election."
The Home Adviser said they held a discussion with the Dhaka University (DU) Vice-Chancellor about the DUCSU elections on Monday.
The Home Adviser said the voters in the DUCSU are representing the educated society.
The presiding officers and polling officers here are also highly educated, he also said.
The voting for the Dhaka University Central Students' Union (DUCSU) and hall union elections has begun at 8:00 am today amid stringent security.
The voting will continue till 4 pm today.
The students are exercising their voting franchise spontaneously.
The Home Adviser said there is a congenial environment in the country for the upcoming national election.
"I do not see any obstacles for the next national election. After a long time, the mood of an election has been created since the DUCSU election was held in a festive and fair manner. It will have an impact on the national election as well," he said.
Jahangir credited the law enforcement agencies for ensuring enhanced security measures around the Dhaka University which contributed immensely to hold the DUCSU election in a peaceful and smooth manner.
The Home Adviser also said that the law enforcement agencies are being prepared for the national election as well and their training activities are underway.
Describing drugs as the main enemy of society, he called upon all to work in unison to stop the abuse of drugs; otherwise, the young generation will be completely ruined.
The Home Adviser said the law enforcement agencies have been asked to be more vigilant to prevent the entry of drugs into the country.
He also appreciated the efforts of the law enforcement agencies in seizure of huge drugs compared to the past.
"The drug must be eradicated. Everyone must come forward and be aware of this issue," he said.
The Home Adviser said the production of Hilsha fish this season has decreased.
He asked the law enforcement agencies to be more vigilant to protect the Hilsha fries especially during their breeding period.
