Motorcycle patrols to be enhanced in city alleys to prevent crime: DMP Commissioner


Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) Commissioner SM Sazzat Ali today said they would further increase motorcycle patrols ahead of the Eid-ul-Fitr in the city aimed at checking crimes.
“Motorcycle patrols will be further enhanced in the nooks and crannies of the city to prevent crime. The incidents of robbery have now reduced to a large extent due to police activities. This must be maintained,” he said.
He was speaking at the monthly crime review meeting for February-2025 at the Bangladesh Police Auditorium at Rajarbagh here today.
The DMP chief hailed the DMP men for their sincere efforts in maintaining the law and order by checking crimes.
“Auxiliary police officers will also exercise arrest powers like the police. The police station will assist them in this regard,” he said.
The DMP has so far given appointment of 426 ‘auxiliary police officers’ to help police maintain law and order.
He stressed the need for enhancing police search to arrest criminals wanted in previous cases.
“Along with the police, the residents of the metropolis should take measures for greater security of their homes and institutions during the upcoming Eid-ul-Fitr,” he said.
Additional Commissioner (Crime and Operations) SN Md. Nazrul Islam, Additional Police Commissioner (Detective Branch) Rezaul Karim Mallick and Additional Police Commissioner (Counter Terrorism and Transnational Crime) Md. Masud Karim, spoke at the meeting.
DMP’s Joint Commissioners, Deputy Police Commissioners, Additional Deputy Police Commissioners, Assistant Police Commissioners, Officers-in-Charge of all DMP police stations and police officers of various ranks were present.
