BGB saves an individual from 'mob violence' in Satkhira

The Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) on Monday saved a person accused of stealing a bicycle from 'mob violence' of an agitated crowd in Toluigacha area under Satkhira Sadar Upazila.
 
He was later safely handed over to Satkhira Sadar Police Station, said a BGB press release.
 
The incident took place around 10:00 pm when locals caught Md. Abul Hasan (30), a resident of Dakshin Toluigacha village, near Toluigacha Border Outpost (BOP) and started beating him severely, accusing him of bicycle theft.
 
Upon receiving the information, a patrol team of BGB's Taluigacha BOP quickly arrived at the scene and rescued the person and stopped the mob violence. 

In the wake of this incident, an extremely tense situation arose in the area and the agitated crowd tried to snatch the accused person from the hands of the BGB, the press release said.
 
Seeing that the situation was getting out of control, three platoons of BGB personnel were deployed at the scene and tried to pacify them. 
 
As the situation intensified, teams from Satkhira Sadar Police Station and Kalaroa Police Station rushed to the scene.
 
When the BGB tried to hand over the accused person to the police, the agitated crowd obstructed it.
 
The agitated crowd was dispersed tactfully without using any force, said the press release and then BGB handed the individual over to police, it added.
