Bangladesh sets deadline for undocumented foreign nationals to legalise status

The Ministry of Home Affairs has issued a warning to foreign nationals residing and working in Bangladesh without proper documentation, setting a deadline of January 31, 2025, to legalise their status.

The ministry said that legal action will be initiated against both undocumented foreign nationals and the institutions employing or harbouring them if they fail to comply by the deadline.

The announcement was made in an official notice released on Thursday.

According to the statement, a significant number of foreign nationals are currently living and working in Bangladesh without required legal permits.

The Home Ministry urged these individuals to obtain the necessary documents to regularise their stay.

In addition, the Home Ministry called on relevant departments and institutions to assist in ensuring the foreign nationals comply with the deadline.
