Nation to witness a real election after years: Shafiqul Alam

Chief Adviser’s Press Secretary Shafiqul Alam on Friday said the country is set to witness a real election after many years, with all obstacles now cleared for a national vote in the first week of February.
“There’s no doubt about the upcoming election. We’ve moved past the era of fake polls held during Hasina’s 16-year tenure,” he told reporters during a discussion at Mymensingh Press Club.
Shafiqul Alam said this time the nation will experience ‘one of the best elections in its history,’ adding that the election atmosphere is already taking shape.
“I’ve seen posters of potential candidates in many areas. Once parties begin naming candidates in the next two to three weeks, the election mood will intensify,” he added.
The Press Secretary mentioned that all parties have agreed in principle on the July Charter, and a formal signing is scheduled for October 15.
“After the signing, all political parties will begin their preparations for the polls. Some have already declared nominations,” he said.
Mymensingh Press Club General Secretary Saiful Islam, along with journalists from both print and electronic media, were present at the event.
