19 IU teachers served show cause notices

Authorities of Islamic University (IU) in Kushtia issued show-cause notices to 19 teachers from different departments for allegedly intimidating and threatening students, teachers and officials during July uprising.

The notices, signed by acting registrar Prof Dr. Manjurul Haque, were served separately to the concerned teachers, asking them to explain in writing within 10 working days why legal action should not be taken against them.

According to the letters, an investigation committee found the teachers involved in harassment, intimidation and aggressive behavior towards members of the Anti-Discrimination Student Movement on campus. 

They were also accused of using abusive language, chanting provocative slogans during processions and instructing law enforcement to arrest participants of the movement.

The teachers who received notices include- Former proctor Prof Dr. Mahbubar Rahman; Prof Dr. Mahbubul Arifin of Management department; Prof Dr. Paresh Chandra Barman and Prof Dr. Tapan Kumar Jodder of ICT department; Prof Dr. A H M Aktarul Islam, Dr. Mia Md. Rashiduzzaman, and Associate Prof Dr. Afroza Banu of English department; Prof Dr. Rabiul Hossain and Dr. Baki Billah of Bangla department; Assistant Prof Shahidul Islam of Human Resource Management department; Prof Dr. Kazi Akhtar Hossain and Dr. Shelina Nasrin of Accounting and Information Systems department; Prof Dr. Debashish Sharma of Economics department; Prof Dr. Shahjahan Mondol and Dr. Reba Mondol of Law department; Associate Prof Joyassree Sen of CSE department; Prof Dr. Amjad Hossain of Al-Fiqh and Law department; Assistant Prof Mahedi Hasan of Law and Land Management department and Assistant Prof Mazedul Haque of Marketing department.

Meanwhile, the probe body has also recommended disciplinary action against 11 officials and 31 students on similar charges.
