A quiet morning in Porsha upazila of Naogaon turned tragic when a middle-aged couple was found dead in their home on Wednesday.
Police suspect a heartbreaking case of murder-suicide, with the husband believed to have taken his wife’s life before ending his own.
The deceased were identified as Abdul Hai Babu, 55, son of late Abdul Jabar, and his wife Momena Begum, 45, of Shitli Fakirpara village in the upazila.
Quoting locals, police said the couple had dinner together and went to bed with their two young daughters as usual on Tuesday night.
The next morning, one of the couple’s daughters woke up to a horrifying scene as she found her mother lying lifeless on the bed and her father hanging from the ceiling by a rope.
Panicked, the child cried out, prompting neighbours to rush to the house, where they discovered the bodies.
Officer-in-charge of Porsha Police Station Mintu Rahman said the bodies were recovered and sent to Naogaon Sadar Hospital morgue for autopsy.
He suspects that the husband may have strangled his wife following a family dispute during the night, before taking his own life.
An unnatural death (UD) case has been filed, and police are continuing their investigation, the OC added.
