Chinese company to invest $10.5 million to establish plant in BEPZA Economic Zone

Baishili Household Products Bangladesh Co. Ltd., a Chinese company, is set to invest US$10.47 million to establish a household products and bag manufacturing plant in the BEPZA Economic Zone (BEPZA EZ) at Mirsharai, Chattogram.

An agreement to this effect was signed on Tuesday at the BEPZA Complex in Dhaka between the Bangladesh Export Processing Zones Authority (BEPZA) and Baishili Household Products Bangladesh Co. Ltd, according to a press release.  

BEPZA Executive Chairman Major General Abul Kalam Mohammad Ziaur Rahman witnessed the signing ceremony. Md. Ashraful Kabir, Member (Investment Promotion), signed the agreement on behalf of BEPZA, while Mr. Sun Rundong, Chairman of Baishili Household Products Bangladesh Co. Ltd., signed for the company.

The fully foreign-owned venture will produce 21.41 million pieces of various household storage, decoration and related items, as well as different types of bags annually. The project is expected to create jobs for 989 Bangladeshi nationals.

Welcoming the investment, the BEPZA Executive Chairman urged the company to start construction at the earliest, make the best use of the allocated land, and incorporate environmentally friendly measures such as rooftop solar panels and rainwater harvesting.

Senior BEPZA officials, including Member (Engineering) Md. Imtiaz Hossain, Member (Finance) A N M Foyzul Haque, Executive Director (Investment Promotion) Md. Tanvir Hossain, Executive Director (Enterprise Services) Md. Khorshid Alam, Project Director of BEPZA EZ Mohammad Anamul Haque, and Executive Director (Public Relations) A.S.M Anwar Parvez, along with representatives from Baishili Household Products, were present at the event.
