Adviser to the Ministry of Local Government, Rural Development and Cooperatives, Asif Mahmud Shojib Bhuyain said that consumers are enjoying relief in purchasing essential commodities this year thanks to a stable market situation.

In a post on his verified Facebook page, the adviser noted that in previous years, dishonest traders would significantly increase the prices of various spices in the weeks leading up to Eid-ul-Azha. "This year, such abnormal price hikes have not occurred," he added.

Highlighting the improved situation, Asif Mahmud pointed out that prices of most spices have decreased compared to last year.

For example, onions that were priced at Tk 70-80 per kg during Eid-ul-Azha last year are now being sold at Tk 45-50 per kg. Similarly, local garlic, which previously cost Tk 190-200 per kg, is now available for Tk 110-120. The price of ginger has also seen a sharp decline, from Tk 220-260 per kg last year to Tk 110-120 this year.

"The current market is much more consumer-friendly, with lower prices for most spices compared to the previous year," the adviser added.
