3 anti-discrimination student activists released after overnight detention
Three members of the Anti-Discrimination Student Movement, who were detained overnight for allegedly creating chaos at a residence in Dhanmondi area of the capital, were released on Tuesday.
The freed were identified as Saiful Islam Rabbi, 26, convener of Mohammadpur unit Anti-Discrimination Student Movement and a student of Patuakhali Polytechnic Institute, Farhan Sarkar Dina, 26, joint member secretary of Dhaka Metropolitan unit of the organisation and student of Bangladesh Maritime University and Mohammad Ullah Jisan, 24, a student of Mohammadpur Central College.
Hannan Masud, central leader of the organisation secured their release on bond by submitting affidavits on their behalf.
Several members of the organisation gathered at the police station since Tuesday morning.
Later in the day, central leader Hannan and others arrived and held a closed-door meeting for several hours with the officer-in-charge and senior officials of the Dhanmondi Police Station.
Following the discussion, the detained activists were released into the custody of their leaders on bond.
Officer-in-Charge of Dhanmondi Police Station Kayshenu said, they were released after giving assurances on bond that they would not engage in such activities again.
They were handed over to their central leader Hannan, said OC.
