Journalist Sumon’s mother Poet Hosne Ara dies
Hosne Ara Hossain, mother of senior journalist Sumon Mahmud of Bdnews24.com, passed away on Tuesday after a long battle with various illnesses. She was 75.
Hosne Ara Hossain, a poet and literary figure, breathed her last at 5:55pm while undergoing treatment on life support at the Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University Hospital in the capital.
She left behind her husband ABM Mokbul Hossain, two sons Sumon Mahmud and Arif Hossain Tipu, and one daughter Farida Kaniz.
Her son, Sumon Mahmud, said that Hosne Ara was admitted to Square Hospital on September 30, where she was placed on life support for an extended period.
As her condition worsened, she was later shifted to the ICU of the Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University Hospital.
Sumon also said his mother had been suffering from various old-age-related ailments, including neurological and heart problems for the past few years. “She was put on life support on October 13 as suffered a heart attack.”
Hosne Ara was born on August 15, 1950 in Nangalkot, Cumilla. She was the eldest daughter of her father, Ahmad Ullah, and mother, Delwara Afroze Chowdhury. Her father, Ahmad Ullah, was a well-known lawyer in Cumilla.
In the 1960s, despite facing various challenges, Hosne Ara became a prominent figure in her family, writing poetry and short stories focused on the country, society, and nature.
