Activist of banned BCL arrested in Shyampur over arson attempt

Police arrested a member of the banned Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL) in the early hours of Sunday while he was allegedly attempting to set fire to a parked bus in the capital’s Shyampur area.

The arrestee was identified as Siam Sarker, 22.

Acting on a tip-off, a team from Shyampur Police Station conducted a drive around 4:00 am in the Khondaker Road area along the Dhaka-Mawa highway.

They found two people reportedly trying to set fire to a parked bus under alleged instructions from Jubo League leader Shakil Bin Sams alias Rabbi.

Sensing police presence, the suspects tried to flee.

Siam was detained at the scene, while the other suspect, identified as Rafsan, managed to escape, said DMP Media and Public Relations Deputy Commissioner Talebur Rahman.

A case was filed with Shyampur Model Police Station against Siam and the absconding accused.
