BSMR Maritime University Concludes Four-Day Workshop on Institutional Research and QS Ranking Roadmap

A four-day workshop on the Institutional Annual Research Initiative and QS University Ranking roadmap successfully concluded on February 6 at the BSMR Maritime University campus, Pallabi, Mirpur. The workshop, conducted by Dr. P. R. Datta, the Executive Chair of the Centre for Business & Economic Research (CBER), UK and Senor Lecturer & Scholarship Lead at Regent College London, UK aimed at establishing a comprehensive, world-class research culture within the institution.

The programme, which commenced on February 2, brought together over 50 distinguished academics, senior policymakers, and institutional leaders, including Deans and faculty heads, at the university’s main auditorium. The workshop was designed to provide specific training on preparing and publishing research papers in reputable international scholarly journals while raising awareness of the requirements for gaining recognition in the QS World University Rankings and other such global evaluations. During the four-day event, participants engaged in insightful discussions and hands-on sessions covering various aspects of research excellence, international collaboration, and strategic development. Dr. Datta emphasised the importance of fostering a research-led teaching philosophy, which is crucial for enhancing the institution’s academic standing and global competitiveness.

In his concluding remarks, Dr. Datta underscored the need for significant improvements in Bangladesh’s higher education system to meet both local and global demands while maintaining high academic standards. He stated, “One of the significant challenges confronting Bangladesh's tertiary education system is the quality of teaching and research conditions. Improving quality has been identified as a key strategic goal of the Bangladesh Higher Education reform frameworks. Higher education institutions in Bangladesh must take proactive steps to ensure the quality of research and education.”

The Vice-Chancellor of the University Rear Admiral Ashraful Hoq Chowdhury, NBP, OSP, BCGM, NDU, AFWC, PSC also praised the workshop’s impact on strengthening international collaboration and scholarly activities within the institution. He highlighted that such initiatives are crucial for positioning the University as a world-class institution in maritime studies.

The programme was coordinated by Gulbuddin Mohmmed Baktire, Assistant Director, INTCE and Captain Mohammad Mosharrof Hossain, (N), PSC, BN, Director, IQAC

The successful conclusion of the workshop marks an important step towards fostering a strong research culture at BSMR Maritime University.
