DSEX drops 7.98 points as 117 stocks decline in early trade
The Dhaka Stock Exchange (DSE), the country’s premier capital market, experienced a downtrend in the first 90 minutes of trading on Thursday.
Following the Christmas holiday on Wednesday (Dec 25), all three major indices—DSEX, DSES, and DS30—registered declines in the morning session.
The benchmark index, DSEX, fell by 7.98 points to settle at 5,161.33. Similarly, the Shariah-compliant DSES index dropped 2.86 points to 1,155.82, while the blue-chip DS30 index lost 6.58 points, standing at 1,916.43 during the same period.
Trading data from the DSE showed that shares and units amounting to 2.55 crore were exchanged through 25,354 transactions during the session.
The market faced significant selling pressure, with shares and mutual funds worth Tk 67.1 crore traded.
A total of 366 companies participated in trading.
Among them, the share prices of 147 companies increased, 117 declined and 102 remained unchanged.
