No explosives or suspicious items found in Biman aircraft:Authorities

No explosives or suspicious items were found during a thorough security sweep of a Biman Bangladesh Airlines flight following a bomb threat received on Friday, the airline authorities said.

Security inspection was completed at 7:58pm and no evidence of any explosive materials or suspicious objects was found, said a Biman press release.

The situation remains fully under control as security agencies acted with the utmost caution from the very beginning of the incident, it added.

Efforts are currently underway to re-board passengers and resume the flight to its scheduled destination after ensuring the safety of all passengers and crew, said the press release.

Earlier at 4:26pm, Biman Bangladesh Airlines received an anonymous phone call claiming that a bomb had been planted on flight BG373, a Boeing 737-800 scheduled to fly to Kathmandu.

At the time of the call, the aircraft was taxiing with 142 passengers and 7 crew members on board.

Following instructions from the Chairman of the Civil Aviation Authority of Bangladesh (CAAB), emergency protocols were immediately activated.

Bomb disposal units from the Bangladesh Air Force and the Armed Police Battalion (APBn)’s K-9 squad were deployed to the scene.

Later, the bomb disposal team of Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) joined the operation to inspect the aircraft’s cabin and luggage, it said.

All passengers were safely evacuated from the plane and transferred to the lounge area after undergoing individual screening.
